Bruno Guimaraes has been the face of Newcastle’s new era and the club are keen on tying him down to a new deal to fend off interest in the summer.

The Brazilian midfielder has been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League since his arrival from Lyon in January.

Newcastle function as a better side with the Brazilian at the base of their midfield and they are wanting to tie him down to an improved deal.

Real Madrid have been heavily linked with the 25-year-old

There’s no doubt that Newcastle are a club with an upwards trajectory, however the lure of Real Madrid would be tough for any player to turn down.

Newcastle have hatched a plan to keep hold of their star asset though and ensure that he stays beyond the summer.

Chronicle Live have reported that Guimaraes’ representatives are in ‘open dialogue’ with extending his current deal at the club.

His deal with Newcastle does run until 2026, but Newcastle would be able to warn any other clubs away by offering him improved terms.

Guimaraes is said to earn £120,000 per week on his current deal, which could be bumped up to around £200,000 per week in an improved contract.

The Newcastle midfielder recently won the North East FWA Player of the Year award for 2022 after a superb start at the club.

“My dream while I’m at Newcastle, because I know what it would mean for the fans, is to win the Premier League title here,” the Brazilian said at the FWA North East Awards.

“That is my ambition with the club, plus to play in the Champions League. We need to dream big things because the club deserve it, the fans deserve a title.

“Fans are growing up having never seen Newcastle become champions and my goal while I’m here is to help the club win that title.”

Guimaraes took the positives from the cup defeat though as he thinks it can be used as motivation to spur them on for the rest of the season.

“The League Cup final loss was of course very disappointing,” he added. “When you get to a final everybody wants to win, and when this doesn’t happen, sometimes you cannot hang your head down for too long, you need to treat the experience as an inspiration and look forwards.

“I think Newcastle need that adaption, we need to start getting in more finals regularly and to win one. But this defeat, we should use it to give us the energy to get into the Champions League.

“It’s my goal here to finish in the top four this season, and it’s the goal of the whole team.”
