Liverpool have stepped up their interest in French international Benjamin Pavard as the full-back is looking for a way out of Bayern Munich this summer.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have made an excellent start to their summer business by landing Alexis Mac Allister for just £35m.

With their first deal already over the line, the Reds are now looking at their next targets.

Indeed, midfield still remains a priority position for Liverpool to strengthen as they look to add a defensive-minded player to complement Mac Allister.

According to reports,

Elsewhere, Liverpool are also weighing up adding some more defensive options to their squad.

This season Klopp’s side conceded 47 goals, which was more than any other side who finished in the top five.

With this being the case, they have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich star Pavard.

According to Christian Falk, the French defender is looking to leave Bayern this summer and Liverpool have been credited with interest.

“Benjamin Pavard has informed the club that he wants to move in the summer,” Falk told CaughtOffside.

“His agents are already talking to other clubs. Among them, Liverpool is now a hot candidate.

“Previously, Chelsea and Barcelona were already known to be interested, as well as Italian clubs AC and Inter Milan.”

Along with the other clubs stated as interested,

The 27-year-old can operate as both a right-back and centre-half so could cover two positions with relative ease.

In the 2022-23 season for Bayern, Pavard started in 21 games as a right-back and 17 as a centre-half.

A player with that kind of skillset could be of use to a side like Liverpool in particular.

Pavard would be able to cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold when needed, but could also be deployed as a dependable centre-half.

His current deal with the German champions runs until 2024 and he is seemingly set on a departure this summer.

Having previously won the World Cup and Champions League, the 27-year-old will bring a wealth of experience to his next club.
