“Laughing stock” Chelsea would be making a “laughable” mistake bringing Frank Lampard back to manage the club until the end of the season, according to Simon Jordan.

on Wednesday claimed that Lampard is being considered after he attended Tuesday’s 0-0 draw between the Blues and Liverpool.

Everyone with half a brain knows this is complete and utter b*llocks, yet plenty of journalists have jumped on the bandwagon.

TalkSPORT went one further, claiming they ‘understand’ Lampard is a ‘shock contender’ to be appointed caretaker manager for the rest of 2022-23, as opposed to crediting The Sun.

Chelsea are expected to appoint Luis Enrique or Julian Nagelsmann as their permanent manager following the sacking of Graham Potter.

Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel last September in a controversial move by co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

Getting rid of Tuchel raised alarm bells throughout the Blues fan base and the decision has looked even less justified thanks to Potter’s woeful stint in charge.

Lampard – who was sacked as Chelsea boss in January 2021 – is obviously not going to be appointed caretaker boss, but the talkSPORT story gave Simon Jordan the opportunity to discuss it live on air.

Jordan was critical of Lampard for his failed spell as Everton manager and thinks a return to Stamford Bridge would make the club “an even bigger laughing stock”.

“I think it would be laughable,” the former Crystal Palace owner said.

“Lampard was abject failure towards the end at Everton. The culture at Chelsea was poor towards the end.

“In certain quarters, Chelsea are a laughing stock. Why would they want to compound that and become an even bigger laughing stock?

“There’s two types of people in this world: popular people and successful people. It’s amazing how popular you become when you are successful.

“Why would Frank even want to do it? It’s diminishing of him, doing everyone a favour by turning up.

“You’ve been there. Get on with appointing a big-name manager.”
