Chelsea have now moved to open official negotiations to sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar this summer, according to reports in France.
Despite only being available for 29 matches in all competitions this season, the Brazil international has contributed an impressive 31 goal involvements in those matches.
At the beginning of May, PSG released a statement to condemn supporters who gathered outside Neymar’s home and chanted for him to leave the club.
The statement read: “Paris St Germain most strongly condemns the intolerable and insulting actions of a small group of individuals that took place on Wednesday.
“Whatever the differences of opinion, nothing justifies such actions.
“The club gives its full support to its players, its staff and all those targeted by such shameful behaviour.”
Lionel Messi is leaving PSG this summer and it now looks like Neymar – who is reportedly on around £600k a week – could follow in his footsteps if a club can match his large demands.

But transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed the day after that there had been “no talks” with the current ownership at Man Utd over a move for Neymar.
Romano wrote in his Caught Offside column: “There are no negotiations ongoing between Manchester United and PSG for Neymar as of now. Nothing concrete, no talks… at least with current owners/board. PSG already discussed Neymar’s exit internally, and are looking for a solution this summer.
“United strongly deny the rumours, they insist this is not true. This is the position of the current board, but they are in a sale process, so we’ll see what happens when it’s resolved – Neymar could be a target for new owners, but at the moment there is nothing concrete.
“There have been contacts as Manchester United are interested again in Adrien Rabiot. There is no official bid, and Juventus have also made Rabiot a proposal over a new contract, so the player will decide his future soon. United appreciate the player, though, with Erik ten Hag a big fan since also trying to sign him last summer.”
And now another French publication, Le10 Sport, insist that Premier League side Chelsea ‘has just contacted PSG to officially open negotiations’ over a transfer for Neymar, who moved to PSG for €222m in 2017.
The Ligue 1 side are said to be ‘listening’ to the proposal from Chelsea with PSG ‘not closed to the idea of letting Neymar leave this summer’.
Despite previous rumours they could be willing to accept a loan deal or low offer to get Neymar off their wage bill, Le10 Sport adds that PSG are still looking for ‘a good price’ after making ‘significant savings’ with Sergio Ramos and Messi’s departures from the club.
