The home match against record Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich on Matchday 16 (Wednesday 20 December) marks the end of the competitive year for the Wolves. Before the new football year begins and the first half of the season officially ends with Matchday 17 on Saturday 13 January 2024, Niko Kovac’s team will hold their winter training camp from 2 to 7 January in Almancil, Portugal, where the Wolves’ women’s team will also stay from 6 to 15 January.
Kovac’s men therefore have five league games between now and Christmas. After a short week’s holiday, training resumes before the end of the year on Thursday 28 December. The squad will train in Wolfsburg for three days before reconvening on Thursday 2 January to head to the fourth training camp in Almancil on the Algarve coast. After their return on Sunday 7 January, they will have around a week to prepare for the first competitive fixture of the year at 1. FSV Mainz 05.
VfL will release information about planned friendlies over the winter break in due course.
