VfL Wolfsburg have bolstered their options in defensive midfield by signing Türkiye international Salih Özcan on loan from Borussia Dortmund. In addition to his ball-winning qualities, the 26-year-old has a great deal of experience on the European and international stage.
“We’re very pleased that Salih Özcan is joining VfL Wolfsburg,” said head coach Ralph Hasenhüttl. “His mindset and style of play make him the perfect addition to our midfield. We believe that the qualities he has will do us a lot of good.”
“After some very good negotiations, I’m now delighted to be here in Wolfsburg,” said Özcan. “The club and the team definitely have what it takes to play in Europe. I will try to play my part, give it my all and show my qualities out on the pitch. Hopefully we’ll have a successful season.”
The Cologne native rose through the youth ranks at 1. FC Köln and established himself at professional level at his hometown club. Following a loan spell at Holstein Kiel and several impressive displays for Köln in the 2021/22 campaign, Özcan moved to Dortmund in summer 2022. The 1.83-metre midfielder has made 70 appearances for Dortmund, including 16 in the UEFA Champions League. In addition to that, he has 22 international caps for Türkiye, four of which came at the 2024 European Championship in Germany (two as a starter).
