Amos Pieper lives very close to the wohninvest WESERSTADION, and he often walks to training when the weather is appropriate and there is nothing else on the agenda. Pieper feels “completely at home” in Bremen. The centre back now looks forward to taking a breather for the next few days. “The break will do us good as a team,” said Pieper, “and then we can come back and bring all our effort again.”

He is very satisfied with his personal development and playing time. “With the competition in this position I didn’t expect to be playing so many games,” revealed Pieper, who has only missed out on one occasion due to a yellow card suspension. “I think I’ve deserved to play so often, however, and of course I’m never completely satisfied when I look at some individual games.”

Of course, Pieper was also asked about his ambitions for the national side. After all, the former Bielefeld player won the U21 European Championship last summer and some of his former teammates are now playing for the senior team. Pieper is relaxed about this, and said, “It would be strange if I said I wasn’t keen on playing for the national team, but there is something missing and that has its reasons. I would be very happy to get there if it works out at some point, but I wouldn’t be unhappy if it never comes to that.”

From next Tuesday his focus will therefore be fully on Werder again, and in the coming nine games the championship, European spots and relegation will be determined. Pieper is looking less at the table and more at their own number of points. “We know that 31 points won’t be enough to keep us in the league,” said the Werder number five. “Nobody is letting up. We want to continue to work on our own things.”
