The weekend’s events began on Friday evening, with an esteemed delegation from Colombia arriving in Bremen. The group included the Colombian Ambassador, Yadir Salazar Mejia, who had earlier signed City of Bremen’s Golden Book. The Ambassador was accompanied by several prominent politicians, business leaders, and Felix Merkel, recently appointed as the new Honorary Consul in Bremen. After a meet-and-greet and stadium tour on Friday, the South American delegation attended SVW’s 2-1 home victory over Holstein Kiel on Saturday afternoon.

Also present for the victory was a youth group from South Africa. As part of the “Nacht der Jugend” (Youth Night), the club welcomed schoolchildren from Durban, who are involved in the iSithumba Sportsgarden back in their hometown. It was a reunion for the youngsters, who had met Werder representatives during the club’s delegation trip to South Africa in September.

In addition to the guests from South America and Africa, SV Werder welcomed representatives from Vietnam a few days before the Kiel match. The EduGo Group, an organisation focused on education, further training, and recruitment in Vietnam, visited Bremen for a meeting.

“The past few days have shown how our intensive relationships and networks in target markets are benefiting all parties involved. For us, internationalisation goes both ways, so we’re thrilled to welcome more international visitors to Bremen. We want our club and city to connect with people on a deeper level, and the best way to achieve that is by them experiencing it for themselves,” said Dominik Kupilas, Werder’s Head of Fan & Business Development.

SV Werder Bremen’s reach beyond city limits was also highlighted at the NFL game in Munich, where former Green-White player and Bundesliga ambassador Claudio Pizarro presented Werder jerseys to the Indianapolis Colts and the Seattle Seahawks.
