“We’ve filled the gap we had on the wing with Derrick, which we’re pleased about. Derrick has gathered international experience at clubs in the Netherlands and Turkey, which he can put to use at Werder. He made a splash in the 2. Liga with some impressive displays for Hannover 96, too. We’re glad we’ve managed to sign Derrick,” stated SVW’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer.
Ole Werner is also looking forward to the Hamburg-born wig-back joining the Green-Whites: “Derrick can play in a number of different positions down the left flank. He’s quick and understands the game well. He chipped in with a lot of assists and goals while playing in a defensive role at Hannover. We’re convinced that he’s going to improve our squad.”
The former Germany youth player also sounded confident when asked about his future in Bremen: “Werder is the right place for me to continue developing while playing at a very high level in the Bundesliga. I was fully on board after the talks with Ole Werner, Johannes Jahns and Peter Niemeyer, and I’m really looking forward to my time at Werder.”
The 25-year-old started out at Hamburger SV’s youth set-up before moving to FC Bayern’s academy, ultimately ending up at Eredivisie side Willem II. He was a standout player for 2. Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96, bagging eight goals in 56 appearances. His displays for H96 earned Köhn a move to Galatasaray SK in Turkey, where he has played 14 games (one goal).
