First-half highlights:
2nd minute: That was quick! After being played in by Marvin Ducksch, the returning Oliver Burke keeps his cool to slot past Verden goalkeeper Jascha Tiemann and give SV Werder the lead.
9th minute: Verden’s Nils Koehle gets on the end of a kick from goalkeeper Jascha Tiemann and tries to beat Mio Backhaus with an ambitious effort from rage. His strike goes narrowly over.
20th minute: Anthony Jung lets fly from around 25 yards, but his low effort is wide of goal.
26th minute: Verden start to get more and more into the game. Mathis Meyer picks up a pass from Phil Sarrasch in a good position but shoots wide.
30th minute: Werder smash the crossbar twice in quick succession! Mitchell Weiser gets his head to a corner, but he agonisingly hits the woodwork, as does Dikeni Salifou on the follow-up. Salifou was in an offside position anyway though.
37th minute: Former Werder man Marcel Hilßner tries his luck from around 50 yards out. Mio Backhaus is on his guard and easily collects the ball.
