During the forthcoming international break, several 1. FC Union Berlin players will fulfil a childhood dream of representing their home country on the pitch, with seven players nominated to play for their respective teams.

In the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League, midfielder Brenden Aaronson will face Trinidad & Tobago with the USA. The tournament has been held annually between teams from North America and the Caribbean since 2019. Last seasonthey won their second title with a 2-0 win over Canada in the final. If Gregg Berhalter’s team reach the semi-finals this year, they can look forward to a place at next summer’s Copa América.

Aïssa Laïdouni will face São Tomé and Príncipe and Malawi with the Tunisian national team. The midfielder has worn the “Eagles of Carthage” jersey 36 times to date, scoring two goals in the process. He played three games in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup including the full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over France.

Jérôme Roussillon is also taking part in the CONCACAF Nations League and will face Sint Maarten and Saint Kitts & Nevis with the Guadeloupe national team. After four match days, the French overseas territory is in first place in Group A (League B) with nine points and has a good chance of advancing to League A.

Aljoscha Kemlein has again been called up to the German U20’s. The talented youngster has made four appearances for the DFB squad in the annual Under 20 Elite League, in which eight nations take part. He remains unbeaten with his team. Most recently, they beat the Czech Republic 4-2 to leapfrog Hannes Wolf’s team into first place. Romania await this week before the historic clash against England.

Alex Král wants to qualify for the European Championship in Germany and will face neighbouring Poland with his team on Friday evening. The Czechs are currently in second place in their group with eleven points having played one game less than third-placed Poland. Three days later they will face Moldova. But the Czechs will have to be careful, in the first leg in Chișinău, the “Reprezentace” were held to a 0-0 draw by the supposed underdogs.

Croatia and Josip Juranović face two crucial matches in the coming days. The 2022 World Cup bronze medallists currently have ten points and are in third place behind the Welsh, who are level on points and, crucially, have won the head-to-head tie. In order to qualify for next year’s European Championship, the Croatians will ideally have to secure two wins and hope that Rob Page’s team slip up at the same time.

Goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow could take part in a major tournament next summer for the third time after reaching the 2018 World Cup and the 2021 European Championship. The Danish national team are currently second in their group and have a four-point lead over third-placed Kazakhstan with two games remaining. The Scandinavians could celebrate their successful qualification as early as Friday with a win against Slovenia.
