The professional women’s team of 1. FC Union Berlin will play their first competitive match of the 2024/25 season at league rivals FSV Gütersloh. This was the result of today’s draw for the first round of the DFB Pokal.
FSV ended the 2023/24 season in a secure mid-table position, finishing seventh out of 14 teams and entering its twelfth season in Bundesliga 2. The club from North Rhine-Westphalia’s last DFB Cup campaign ended in the second round after a 7-0 defeat to RasenBallsport Leipzig.
All twelve teams in the Women’s Bundesliga from the previous 2023/2024 season and the two best-placed teams in the Women’s 2. Bundesliga from the previous season were given a bye and will only enter the competition in the second round.
During the draw, Ulrike Ballweg, current Head of Sports Talent Development Women & Girls at the DFB and former assistant coach of the women’s national team, made the draw.
The first round of the Women’s DFB Pokal will take place on 17, 18 and 20 August 2024, with the exact dates still to be announced.
