1. FC Union Berlin’s final pre-season friendly will be against newly-promoted English Premier League side Nottingham Forest. The traditional IFA match is back at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Saturday July 23 at 17:00. It’s an opportunity for all supporters to give Taiwo Awoniyi a farewell following his switch to England this summer.

After 23 years in England’s second tier, one of the most famous names in English football are back in the Premier League. Nottingham Forest came through the play-offs with a 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town at Wembley Stadium in London. In the great days of Nottingham Forest’s history, the Reds won the European Cup in 1979 and 1980. The League Cup was last in the trophy cabinet in 1990, while the FA Cup has been in Nottingham Forest’s hands on two occasions. 

Ahead of their return to the Premier League, Steve Cooper has looked to strengthen his squad with influence from abroad. Union’s record goalscorer in the Bundesliga Taiwo Awoniyi was one of the first announced this summer, while Moussa Niakhate from Mainz and Omar Richards from Bayern have followed.
