1. FC Union Berlin have signed 29-year-old Polish international winger Pawel Wszolek from Legia Warsaw on a free transfer.

After two seasons in Warsaw, the winger has collected the league title on both occasions. In 60 games for the Polish champions, he has scored 12 goals and assisted 15. Wszolek joins with 10 international appearances for his national team and a host of experience across different European competitions. The winger played in Sampdoria and Hellas Verona before switching to Queens Park Rangers in 2017, making a positive impression over three Championship seasons at Loftus Road before returning to Poland in 2019.

“The Bundesliga is extremely demanding and it was always a dream of mine to play there one day. Union has done a great job in recent years and has made a name for itself beyond Germany’s borders. I’m looking forward to being part of this club from the new season and I really hope that we players will then be able to experience the atmosphere with fans at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei,” said Wszolek on arrival in Berlin on Tuesday.

“We are delighted that Pawel has chosen Union. He has already proven his class in several European leagues and has shown that he can integrate quickly and reliably deliver his performance. In the last two years he was extremely successful in Warsaw. He has a physical presence and can make our offensive game even more variable in the new season,” said Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin’s Managing Director for Professional Football.
