Centre-forward Chris Bedia is leaving 1. FC Union Berlin for the coming season and joining English second division club Hull City on loan. The native Ivorian joined the club six months ago.
Debut against the record champions
During his time in Berlin-Köpenick, the 28-year-old attacker made seven Bundesliga appearances, scoring one competitive goal in a Union shirt. Bedia made his debut for Union on 24 January this year, coming on as a 78th-minute substitute for Janik Haberer in the 1-0 defeat to FC Bayern München on matchday 13.
Bedia scored his first and so far only Bundesliga goal on 5 May at home against VfL Bochum. He scored in the 63rd minute to make it 2-3, but the game ultimately ended in a 3-4 defeat for Union.
After spells in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany, the left-footer will continue his career in England for the 24/25 season.
The view on the loan
“Chris wasn’t able to take on the role up front as we and he himself had hoped and therefore didn’t get enough playing time,” explained Union’s director of men’s professional football, Horst Heldt. “At Hull, he should get his minutes again and make the most of them. We wish Chris all the best, good health and every success this season.”
