Millot on target
Sebastian Hoeneß’ men were impressive right from the off, dominating proceedings and putting their opponents under intense pressure. As such, when Enzo Millot opened the scoring in the 16th minute it was fully deserved for the away side.
Guirassy doubles the advantage
Stuttgart, who were sensationally supported by 10,000 away fans in Hoffenheim, missed chances to extend their lead, notably from Deniz Undav (24′) and Millot (25′). Serhou Guirassy showed them how it was done shortly before the interval when he collected Undav’s clever pass to put VfB 2-0 up (45’+2).
Knockout blow
Substitute Jamie Leweling effectively ended the game as a contest in the 68th minute when he made it 3-0. Hoffenheim could have pulled one back in the 74th minute but Andrej Kramaric could only hit the crossbar, but that was a rare opening for the hosts in a game which VfB controlled and – ultimately – deservedly won.
Goals
16′: Some slick interplay involving Chris Führich, Guirassy and Undav ends with the latter finding Millot, who opens the scoring.
45’+2: Undav plays an inviting pass into the box and Guirassy clinically smashes it home for 2-0.
68′: Hiroki Ito flicks on a corner to Leweling, whose low drive puts VfB 3-0 ahead.
