Alexander Nübel is set to stay in Cannstatt for a good while longer, after VfB agreed terms with Bayern Munich on a two-year extension of the 27-year-old’s loan. Nübel has been in Stuttgart since summer 2023 and in recent months, he has established himself as a safe pair of hands, racking up 25 Bundesliga appearances and four more in the DFB Cup. His stunning saves have seen him keep nine clean sheets in the league – most recently in the win at Dortmund – plus another three in the cup.
“Alex Nübel integrated himself in the team right away last summer and quickly became a decisive factor in our style of play,” said VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth. “He gives off an enormous sense of calm and security and that has seen him play a significant role in what has been such a successful season for us thus far. Both we and Alex were very interested in continuing to work together and that is why we are both satisfied and pleased that we have managed to come to a solution that means that Alex gets to stay with VfB.”
“I felt completely at home in Stuttgart and with VfB right from the off,” said Nübel. “Over the past few months, we’ve all come on in leaps and bounds together. I’m delighted to be part of this team and that’s why I soon began to look at staying here beyond this summer. I’m already looking forward to next season, but before then, our full focus is obviously on what is happening on the pitch right now, and we’re looking to finish things off as best we can, with the support of our incredible fans.”
