VfB Stuttgart put in a commanding display away to fourth-tier side TSG Balingen in the first round of the DFB Cup, earning a 4-0 victory to advance to the second round. Approximately 11,500 spectators witnessed VfB take control of the game from the outset, with Sebastian Hoeneß’ charges too strong for their opponents.
Big lead at the break
VfB were clinically able to convert their dominance into goals too, with Enzo Millot (25’), Silas (35’) and Serhou Guirassy (43’) giving the side a comfortable half-time advantage.
Endo seals the deal
Wataru Endo made it 4-0 in the 54th minute to put the result at the Stadion an der Kreuzeiche beyond all doubt. VfB continued to control the game after that and fully justified their role as favourites in their first competitive game of 2023/24 with a positive all-round performance.
VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “I’m pleased with the way we approached the game. It was clear that we were favourites but we still went into the match the necessary respect. I’d have liked us to score another goal or two towards the end, but at the same time we didn’t really give them any chances at the back. There was a fantastic atmosphere here in Reutlingen, a proper football festival.”
Alexander Nübel: “We took the game very seriously, so I’m happy we won it together. It was very nice with the fans behind us, a great start. We want to build on that next week.”
