VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We started the game well and I think we deserved to be 1-0 up at half-time. We began well after the break as well, took control and got a second goal. We had good chances to add to the scoreline but weren’t able to make the most of them. Heidenheim didn’t give up – they pulled a goal back and then that changes things in the players’ heads. Having said that, I want to give my young team credit for the brilliant way we came back again at the end. The point is very important for our morale and position in the table. We’ll take it and learn from the game.”
Angelo Stiller: “I’m happy to have scored my first goal of the campaign. We showed the good football that’s set us apart all season for our first two goals. We can be satisfied with the point given the way things panned out, but we shouldn’t have let the game slip out of our hands when we were 2-0 up.”
Maxi Mittelstädt: “We actually played pretty well and created a lot of chances in the first half in particular. After the break we had everything under control and scored again. But Heidenheim were always dangerous from set pieces and high balls. Maybe we lacked a bit of power towards the end, but at home we shouldn’t be throwing away a 2-0 lead.”
