The Zerofivers are on the road for the final time this season. Mainz are set to face Hertha BSC this Sunday (18:30), following on from their sensational 3-1 win over the Bundesliga champions FC Bayern last time out. The hosts can secure their Bundesliga survival with three points, while the visitors will be looking to finally get an away win after some strong home performances. “Looking ahead to next season, it is important to show that we can do something away from home,” said Bo Svensson ahead of the game.

After a turbulent season, Hertha are finally in the home stretch. The Berliners have had three different head coaches this campaign and have suffered some heavy defeats, such as a 5-0 and a 4-1 against Bayern, a 6-0 and a 6-1 against Leipzig and a 4-0 against Mainz. Their form has however improved under new coach Felix Magath and they have picked up ten points from their last six games. “They are in good form,” warned Bo Svensson ahead of the game.

The record

There have been 27 top-flight meetings between the two clubs. Mainz have won nine, Hertha have won 8 and there have been ten draws.

Magath against FSV

Magath has only lost one of his eleven games against Mainz as a head coach.

Good form against Hertha

Mainz are unbeaten in their last five against The Old Lady (three wins, two draws) – their longest unbeaten run against any of the current Bundesliga teams. Berlin have won just one of their last ten matches against FSV.

Other dates and facts

Against his former club

Hertha midfielder Suat Serdar was a Mainz player from 2008 to 2018 and appeared in the Bundesliga 45 times for The Zerofivers.

Good memories

The 4-0 win over Hertha earlier in the season was Svensson’s biggest as Mainz coach.

Improved form

Hertha are three games unbeaten for the first time since the winter break. They have won two of their last three.

An end to the winless run

Mainz’s well-deserved 3-1 victory over Bayern last time out ended their five-game winless streak. This was the longest The Zerofivers had gone without a win under Bo Svensson.

Unbeaten against BSC

FSV goalkeeper Robin Zentner has never lost against Hertha as a professional player. He has an impressive record of four wins, three draws and zero defeats against the Berliners.
