It’s time for the final Bundesliga matchday of the season, as 1. FSV Mainz 05 play what is going to be a special fixture at the MEWA ARENA this Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST) against Europa League finalists Eintracht Frankfurt – also known as the Rhine-Main derby. “We’ve got one game to go on home turf, and it some of our players’ last run out in a Mainz shirt. We want to play some good football, even if it won’t make a real difference to our league position,” explained Bo Svensson at the pre-match presser on Thursday. Both Jeremiah St. Juste, who is leaving to join Sporting Lisbon, and Daniel Brosinski, who has spent eight years at FSV Mainz 05, will have the chance to bid farewell to the Zerofivers. Ahead of the game, we take a look at some match facts.
Opposition check: Eintracht Frankfurt finished in fifth place last season, narrowly missing out on a Champions League spot, but they could look forward to a Europa League campaign with new head coach Oliver Glasner coming from VfL Wolfsburg. They’ve had a brilliant season in the competition, completing a very strong group phase before eliminating Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham en route to the final, where they will face Rangers on Wednesday evening. They’ve not enjoyed quite as much success in the league, however. They’re currently in 12th place after 33 matchdays and their recent form is one of the worst in the league.

FSV haven’t won in any of their last three matches against Frankfurt, but with nine overall wins in the Bundesliga, they boast a slightly better record in this fixture (SGE eight wins, ten draws).
Mainz ahead of Frankfurt
The Zerofivers (45 points) will definitely finish ahead of Frankfurt in the table (41 points), a first since the 2015/16 season.
No worries concerning relegation
The Zerofivers have always been betweeb fourth and eleventh place this season, and therefore have never been involved in the relegation battle.
Winless streak
Eintracht are without a win in their last seven matches (D4, L3), which is Oliver Glasner’s longest winless run in his Bundesliga career.
Top creators
Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic (22) and midfielder Anton Stach (20) have registered the most goal-scoring chances in the league since the beginning of April 2022. Stach has assisted a goal in two consecutive top-flight matches for the first time recently, achieving this feat for the first time in his career.

Attacker Karim Onisiwo registered his eighth league assist of the season against Hertha BSC last weekend, and since data began to be collected in the 2004/05 season, only Antonio Da Silva has got more assists for the Zerofivers in a single Bundesliga campaign (11 in 2005/06). Onisiwo has also directly contributed to four of Mainz’s last five goals against Eintracht Frankfurt (2G, 2A).
