Barreiro: “We brought energy and power onto the pitch”

The Zerofivers brought their calendar year to a close with a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday afternoon. It was a welcome point for FSV who were going into the game off the back of three straight defeats in the league. Although a draw was probably a fair result, FSV enjoyed some good moments in the first half and could have been more than one goal to the good at the break. Overall, it was satisfactory afternoon at the office for Svensson’s side.

Reaction to Frankfurt draw:

Martin Schmidt: “The overall feeling is good. We didn’t want to be going into the break off the back of four straight defeats and this was perhaps evident after the equaliser when we didn’t take as many risks at the top of the pitch. 1-1 is a fair result, although we were the better team for the first half an hour and we could have gone 2-0 up with the chances that we had. We’ve had a satisfactory start to the season with 19 points from 15 games. However, today’s result was much more important for us in terms of our morale than it was for our position in the league. It’s important that the boys keep believing in themselves.”

Leo Barreiro: “It was a very dynamic game and we brought a lot of energy and power onto the pitch, particularly in the first half. We were happy with that and we played well. It was a bit more difficult at the back in terms of our power in the second half but Frankfurt also played well. We had chances to score more but Frankfurt also had their moments, so I think the 1-1 is a fair result.”

Jonny Burkardt: “I could have scored a little earlier in the season. I have noticed that I have regained my strength over the last few weeks so I knew it was only a matter of time and I had a good feeling. A result like this is good for everyone, for the team and for the fans. It was good especially in terms of the performance, even if we didn’t get the three points. All Mainzers can go home in good spirits tonight.”
