Success on the international stage!
RB Leipzig is one of the best teams in European competition in the last five years. That’s the findings of the latest coefficient, coming after a stretch where the club reached the semi-finals once and the knockout phase of the Champions League three times. Add to that the club’s journey in the Europa League, which went all the way to the semifinals, and RBL has become one of the most consistent performers on the continent.
UEFA awards a predetermined number of points for a team’s performance in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League, which results in a coefficient. While this ultimately shows the success of the club, it’s about more than bragging rights. This coefficient determines which pot the clubs are put into for the group stage draw. RB Leipzig will be in Pot 1 of the Champions League for the first time next season.
With a total of 97 points, RBL is in ninth place in the five-year ranking – level with Borussia Dortmund. The best German club is FC Bayern Munich (144 points).

How the coefficient is determined:
- The individual club coefficient is calculated by adding up all points during a season in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. RB Leipzig has so far only competed in the first two competitions.
A club’s five-year coefficient is equal to its cumulative total points over the previous five seasons OR 20 percent of the corresponding association’s five-year coefficient, whichever is greater.
