“The only thing that counts for us is the three points.”

Our boys are preparing for the upcoming home game against VfL Wolfsburg this Saturday at 3.30pm. On Tuesday, Peter Gulacsi took the time to speak in a media round about upcoming opponents Wolfsburg, the final stretch of the season and his special relationship with former RBL coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, who coached the Red Bulls for two seasons from 2016 to 2018.

Peter Gulacsi on …

… the convincing victory in Freiburg

  • “It was important for us to do our job. Now we’re fourth, we’ve hit the minimum requirement before the end of the season. That’s a nice feeling. But there are still six games left and many tough tasks lie ahead for us. The head-to-head against Dortmund is still to come. We haven’t achieved anything yet.”

… VfL Wolfsburg

  • “Our focus is on winning the game against Wolfsburg. We know how tight things are in the Bundesliga – every game’s difficult. Wolfsburg have a new coach and need points just as much as we do. If we complete our tasks, we will achieve our goal. We can’t influence anything else.

“Wolfsburg have good quality in their squad, which brings together many good individual players. We lost against them twice recently. We really want to show that we’ve learned from these two games and want to win this home game. For us, the only thing that counts is the three points in front of our fans in the Red Bull Arena.”

Peter Gulacsi on …

… Ralph Hasenhüttl

  • “It was a fantastic two years under him. He made me No.1 back then, I owe him a lot. We played Leipzig’s first Bundesliga season under him, and that year will always be special for everyone who was there. We started the season without any great expectations, but in the end we came second and qualified for the Champions League. That stays forever. We met here in Leipzig last summer. We have a special relationship and get along very well. Ralph’s a great person and a very good coach. He has shown that in England at Southampton over the last few years and I’m convinced that he’ll show that in Wolfsburg too.”

… RBL’s undefeated record with him in goal this season

  • “It’s definitely not just me. We improved together as a team. As a team, we haven’t given away much defensively in the last few weeks and are stable. Offensively, we always knew what qualities we had. Of course it’s nice that we didn’t lose a Bundesliga game with me in goal, it can stay that way.”

… his current form

  • “Every minute of training and of course match practice helps me. I had a small injury again after my first few games and then was out again. That sets you back a bit. It’s all the more important that I’ve got into a rhythm in the last few weeks and played continuously in the club and in the [Hungary] national team. I feel very good and can train fully. This is important.”
