What David had to say!

For David Raum (26) the EURO has really pick up its tempo: First the assist for the last-minute equalizer against Switzerland after being brought on, then his start (his first one in the tournament) against Denmark.

Our leftback also played a big part agains the Scandinavians, with a sharp cross preceding Kai Havertz‘s penalty goal.

At the DFB’s official press conference on Monday, David Raum spoke about his moment of the EURO 2024, having fun in the DFB camp, and meeting his teammate Dani Olmo in the quarter finals.

David Raum on…

… his assist against Switzerland

  • “That moment made my very happy and to want more. Everyone wants to contribute their part to the success. That fact that I could do that in the past few games makes me very happy. I wish every player in our team has their moment to shine and I am glad I had mine against Switzerland already. I would really like to have a second one.”

… his crosses and possible own goals/handball penalties…

  • “I don’t go into a game trying to hit the opponent’s hand or shoot at the players so that an own goal can be scored. The intention of my crosses is naturally to serve my teammates so that they can use the ball with their feet or head.

If things happen like they did against Denmark, with one of my crosses resulting in a penalty, of course I’m happy about it. Even though I have to admit that I didn’t notices at first that my opponent had touched it with his hand. It took me a moment.”

David Raum on…

the match against Spain…

  • “The entire Spanish squad is well stacked. They can afford to bring Dani Olmo, one of our most important players in Leipzig, off the bench.

They have enormous depth up front with players like Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, but they also have extremely experienced players like Rodri and Dani Carvajal, who have already won it all at club level. The entire team has a high standard of quality. We know what to expect and we’re looking forward to it.”

… meeting Dani Olmo

  • “I blocked him first (laughs). No, jokes aside. Dani and I are really good friends. He’s a great guy and I’ve grown very fond of him in my two years in Leipzig. We play on the same side at RB Leipzig and get along quite well on and off the pitch.

On Friday we’re opponents, which is something new for both of us. Dani is a fantastic player, he has an amazing technique and is dangerous on goal. It will be difficult to stop him. But I have a few ideas about how my trammates and I could succeed.”

School trip? That’s actually a bit true.
David Raum

… the atmosphere in the DFB Team

  • “We have a really good time together. Social media gives us the opportunity to give fans a little glimpse into our camp and the days in between the games. We enjoy bringing people along with us and offering something back to them.

I keep reading in the comments that we remember them of a school field trip. That’s actually a bit true. We have a lot of fun together. And when we win, it’s even more fun, as you’d expect.”
