RB Leipzig were defeated 1-0 by VfL Bochum on Bundesliga matchday 25.

Here’s what head coach Marco Rose, Willi Orban and Marcel Halstenberg had to say.

Marco Rose:

  • “It was the kind of game that we were expecting. We defended well over long stretched, but needed to be more alert to prevent what happened for their goal.

We conceded from a simple dead ball. We were in control of the game and played well out from the back, but didn’t take the big chances that we had.”

Willi Orban:

  • “It’s a defeat for us today. We had the chance to rescue a draw, but [Bochum goalkeeper] Riemann made some good saves and we missed some chances. Bochum didn’t have the bigger chances today.

I’d have liked for us to keep the scores level until the 80th minute and then score off the bench and take all three points. Unfortunately we didn’t do that today.

There were spaces in the first half that we should have used better. Towards the end we were throwing everything forward and had two or three big chances. We should have scored an equaliser.”

Marcel Halstenberg:

  • “We knew that it was going to be a close game with a lot of set pieces and long balls. We just weren’t switched on enough. If you go 1-0 up here, it’s a completely different game than when you go behind.

You could see that we were creating chances and late on we just had some bad luck hitting the woodwork.

We were trying to play out from the back and create chances for ourselves, but we weren’t clinical enough and left the game too open. It was back and forth in the first half. We never managed to take our chances to go ahead.

Now we have to dust ourselves down after this week and make sure that our international players come back fit and healthy so we can get back to winning ways after the break.”
