RB Leipzig beat Bochum 1-0 and began the new Bundesliga season with a win. Here are all the facts about the game!

Everything on #RBLBOC

Post-match comments: Marco Rose, Xavi and Antonio Nusa on the home win

+++ Squad Facts +++

  • Antonio Nusa was subbed in the 55th minute and made his Bundesliga debut.

  • There was one change in the starting lineup compared to the Essen game: Castello Lukeba took over for Lukas Klostermann in central defence.

  • Eljif Elmas and Christoph Baumgartner are back in the squad after recovering from their injuries.

  • With Amadou Haidara (5,5 years), Kevin Kampl (7 years), Péter Gulácsi (9 years), Willi Orban (9 years), Lukas Klostermann (10 years) and Yussuf Poulsen (11 years) there were six different players that have spent at least five seasons at RB Leipzig.

  • Yussi and Klosti were even in the first match against Bochum, back in 2014, in the Bundesliga 2.

+++ Goal Facts +++

  • Antonio Nusa scored the winning 1-0 goal against Bochum.

  • Just like in the Pokal match against Essen, our new signing scored after his second touch of the ball.

  • Historical! He’s the first RBL player to have scored in both his DFB Pokal and Bundesliga debuts.

  • At 19 years, 4 months and 8 days, Antonio Nusa is the third youngest scorer in club history. Only Hugo Novoa (18 years, 8 months, 29 days) and Dayot Upamecano (19 years, 3 months,13 days) were younger.

  • Our new number 7 joins the illustrious line of the 1st RBL Bundesliga goal of the season: Dominik Kaiser (2016/17), Timo Werner (2017/18), Jean-Kevin Augustin (2018/19), Marcel Halstenberg (2019/20), Emil Forsberg (2020/21), Dominik Szoboszlai (2021/22) Christopher Nkunku (2022/23) and Dani Olmo (2023/24).

+++ Card Facts +++

  • Willi Orban was sent of with a straight red card after a last-ditch attempt at stopping a rival.

+++ Streak Facts +++

  • Peter Gulacsi has won all 7 matches against Bochum he’s played in, conceding only 2 goals.

  • With this win, our undefeated streak in official matches stretches to 12 Bundesliga games in a row. Coincidently, this streak began with a 4-1 win in Bochum…

  • The Red Bulls remain undefeated against VfL Bochum in the Red Bull Arena: 7 home matches, 6 winds, 1 draw, 17 to 1 in goals.

+++ Season Start Facts +++

  • It’s only the second time we begin the Bundesliga season playing at home… and the second time we win. Our first win of the sort was in 2020, with a 3-1 against Mainz 05.

  • We improved our season-starter balance with this win, which now stands at 9 matches, 3 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats, with a total score of 14-14 during Matchday 1 in the Bundesliga.
