Hard-fought three points against the promoted team!

Both teams started with attacking intent, with Xavi (3′) and Tim Kleindienst (6′) both firing narrowly off-target. In the 11th minute, Kevin Sessa got one-on-one with Peter Gulacsi from a suspected offside position but our keeper got down in time. After that, RBL had more possession, with Heidenheim looking to strike on the counter.

Except for a Kleindienst header (29′), we didn’t allow any shots. After a good half hour, Benjamin Sesko hit the side-netting from a tight angle. Shortly before the break, our No.30 scored from inside the penalty area to give us the lead.

The second half began with two feisty clashes in midfield. In the 56th minute, Lois Openda had the first chance after a pass from Xavi, but Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller cleared with his feet. “Bouzou” might have been offside anyway. Heidenheim equalized in the 69th minute when Nicola Dovedan nodded in following a set piece from Jan-Niklas Beste.

Shortly afterwards, Openda had a chance to take the lead again, but was denied by Müller’s leg . Then his counterpart Gulacsi reacted brilliantly to deny Kleindienst (77′). But the Red Bulls weren’t done yet! Mohamed Simakan outran his marker and fed Openda, who scored his fourth away goal in a row (85′).

News on the away win in Heidenheim

This is what our boys say | Post-match quotes

3rd Minute: First attempt by Xavi

 • The ball is played quite well through the Leipzig ranks to the Heidenheim penalty area. The first attempt from the edge of the box falls to Xavi, who fires narrowly off target.

11th Minute: Sessa goes close

 • We have just survived the first really tricky situation! Castello Jr.loses the ball to Tim Kleindienst and the FCH striker quickly passes it onto Kevin Sessa. Peter Gulacsi has to go to feet from close range and makes a strong save. But it also looked like it was offside…

29th Minute: Kleindienst header

 • As expected, when they win the ball, Heidenheim play forward. A cross from the right lands on Tim Kleindienst’s head, but the header is no problem for Peter Gulacsi.

34th Minute: Sesko into the side-netting

 • St’s a shame, that could have been more. Xaver Schlager plays it through the middle, picking out the unmarked Dani Olmo on the right. “El Mago” hooks it in, the ball goes to Benjamin Sesko via Jan-Niklas Beste’s foot. Unfortunately the angle becomes a bit too tight, outside side-netting!

42nd Minute: Gooaal for Sesko!

 • The deadlock is broken! Benedikt Gimber can only deflect a David Raum cross as far as Benjamin Sesko. Our No.30 shoots straight away and hits the far corner.

50th Minute: Two collissions

 • First Amadou Haidara and Marvin Pieringer rattle together in midfield, a few seconds later Xavi and Lennard Maloney. Let’s hope nothing bad happened to all the boys! For Maloney , however, things don’t go any further.

56th Minute: Xavi to Openda

 • First chance in the second half! Xavi runs through to Lois Openda, Heidenheim keeper Kevin Müller saves with his feet. But it could also have been offside.

69th Minute: Dovedan equalises

 • Heidenheim prove their set-piece prowess. Jan Schöppner brings a Beste free-kick back into the middle and Nikola Dovedan, who had just been subbed on, nods in.

72nd Minute: Müller stops Openda

 • An almost immediate response! And again the pass from Xavi to Lois Openda fits into the free space, Kevin Müller saves the shot to the left corner with his right leg.

77th Minute: Gulacsi reacts brilliantly

 • Phew, take a deep breath! Tim Kleindienst hits the ball with his chest in the penalty area after a cross from Jan-Niklas Beste, our keeper has to stretch to stop it.

85th Minute: Openda gives us the lead again!

 • Yes, so important! Xaver Schlager sends Mo Simakan on his way, who does a great job outrunning his marker. The cross comes to Lois Openda and our goalscorer just has to push it in.
