The countdown to the final!

Here are the most important statements from Willi and Marco:

Team news

  • Josko Gvardiol is not eligible to play in the cup final after receiving a red card for his foul in the semi-final win against SC Freiburg.

  • André Silva suffered a thigh injury during training and will therefore be out until further notice.

Team news

Willi Orbán on…

feelings ahead of cup final

  • “Very positive. This is our fourth final in five years, so it feels a bit like we’re coming home. Today is still pretty relaxed with the press conference and final training. Obviously, the focus and concentration will increase again tomorrow.

We are looking forward to the game a lot and have a good opportunity to defend the title. Not many teams have managed to do that.”

… experience in finals

  • “It is good if you have experienced a few games at this level. That gives you a bit more calmness in certain pressure situations on the pitch to make the right decision. Basically, it is important to have played in games like this before.”

Dani Olmo’s contract extension

  • Obviously, it is a very positive sign to have been able to hold onto such a talented player. Dani fits our team perfectly, he has exactly the same ambitious goals as all of us, so it is nice to have him here for a bit longer.

There is a nice stage tomorrow to show how ready Dani is to win his next title.”

Marco Rose on…

… his emotions ahead of the final

  • “We got on the bus feeling good, are deservedly in the final and want to take the final step tomorrow evening. We are here to win the cup.

… Eintracht Frankfurt

  • “Eintracht are a team with a lot of quality and pace. They have a clear plan, are well-organised out of possession and play well in transition. They defend aggressively, and in Mario Götze and Daichi Kamada have fine footballers in their ranks.

They’re a good side and that’s why they’re in the DFB-Pokal final this year and why they won the Europa League last season. I think it will be a tight game.”

Marco Rose on…

… a possible penalty shootout

  • “We haven’t done extra penalty practice again. We have enough lads who are reliable from the penalty spot. If it comes to that we will be ready.”

… an electric atmosphere in the stadium

  • “We are experienced enough and have played games where the atmosphere has been against us, but we will also have a lot of fans there tomorrow who will push us onwards.

A final deserves a brilliant atmosphere, and both clubs can guarantee that with their brilliant supporters. We are all hoping that it will stay amicable in the stadium and in the whole city.”
