“Leipzig is my second home”
325 games. 71 goals. 68 assists. 2 x DFB-Pokal winner. And countless memorable moments. Emil Forsberg will always be a part of the RBL family.
Ahead of his transfer to New York Red Bulls, our favourite Swede took the time to sit down for an in-depth interview.
Emil, your time at RB Leipzig is coming to an end – how do you look back on your nine years in Leipzig?
- “I became a man here. Leipzig and I were the perfect fit. We came through difficult moments, enjoyed many amazing experiences, and won titles together. Everything just clicked.
The nine years here were brilliant for my family and I. I couldn’t have hoped for better. RB Leipzig have become my family. Not just the team, but the whole club, with all its staff and the fans. I’m really proud of what we’ve achieved together – two Pokal trophies, and a Supercup.
Leipzig is our second home. My two children have only known living in Leipzig. We always felt really comfortable here. I’m sad, but also very thankful. It’s a farewell, but it’s not a goodbye forever. I’ll be back!”
Which moments in an RB Leipzig shirt do you look back particularly fondly on?
- “I even teared up on the pitch when we won our first Pokal in 2022. We battled for so many years to finally bring a trophy to Leipzig.
It was important for us that it finally came together against Freiburg after losing two finals, and it was one of my top aims to finally gift the fans a trophy. I’ll never forget celebrating with the fans in Berlin and Leipzig after the finals.”
