#RBLWOB | Post-match quotes

1st Minute: Welcome back!

  • Ralph Hasenhüttl was head coach of the Red Bulls from 2016 to 2018. We undertook our first Bundesliga season with the Austrian in 2016/17. In the end there was second place finish and a first UCL participation for RBL. Now he is back in the Red Bull Arena for the first time as VfL coach.

13th Minute: Dani Olmo makes no mistake

  • YEEEEEEEEEES! There’s the lead: Dani Olmo gets to the ball centrally on the edge of the box and shoots on the turn. The ball sails into the bottom left-hand corner. Visiting keeper Pervan has no chance after Dani’s well-placed, right-footed shot.

45th Minute: Just over

  • Phew! Xavi takes the corner from the left, LoisOpenda rises at the back post and heads dangerously towards the VfL goal. In the end, what might have been 2-0 edges over by a matter of centimetres. The ball hits the wrong side of the post and bounces out of play.

46th Minute: RBL lead!

  • Our boys let nothing go wrong in the first half and deservedly took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to Dani Olmo’s goal. Incidentally, he assist came from Xaver Schlager. It was our midfield engine’s fifth Bundesliga assist this season. A record for Xaver.

63rd Minute: Peeeete!

  • Wolfsburg’s Svanberg lets fly from a good 25 metres and forces our keeper Peter Gulacsi to make a brilliant save. Pete is there and swipes the ball over the crossbar with his right hand. There is no danger from the subsequent corner.

68th Minute: Soooo important!

  • Our boys win the ball in midfield – and then they move forward with gusto. Xavi carries the ball forward at pace. When he arrived at the opponent’s penalty area, he placed it perfectly into the path of Benjamin Sesko.

The Slovenian doesn’t hesitate and, after a phase of Wolfsburg pressure, scores the all-important goal for 2-0 with a left-foot shot. Great, guys!

82nd Minute: Strong!

  • A goalscorer does what a goalscorer has to do: Dani Olmo gets into the half-right space in front of the penalty area and passes into the centre, where Lois Opendacleverly leaves VfL defender Bornauw standing, bursting into the penalty area and placing a finish inside the far post.

A fine goal from Lois, his 22nd in total this Bundesliga season.

90th Minute: Home win!

  • The Man of the Match: Dani Olmo made it 1-0 and set up Lois Openda’s goal. In the end it was definitely a strong team performance today!
