Excellent news ahead of kick-off at the Red Bull Arena! Having already announced the extension of our head coach Marco Rose’s contract in July, we are happy to announce that his assistant coaches have extended their contract as well.

Alexander Zickler, Marco Kurth and Frank Geideck’s contracts have been extended by one year until 2025.

The three former professional footballers joined RB Leipzig in September 2022, when Marco Rose took over the position as head coach and won the DFB-Pokal and Supercup in his first year in charge of Leipzig.

Marco Rose:

  • “Having a trusting and quality team is extremely important to be able to work successfully. First and foremost, that includes the assistant coaches, but also, of course, the staff as a whole.

I have complete trust in the guys, some of whom have been with me for some time now and who also take on and bear a lot of responsibility. For this reason, I’m really glad that Alex, Kurthi and Frank will now be working together for a while longer so that we can achieve a lot together here in Leipzig.”

Assistant coaches profiled:

Alexander Zickler:

Alexander Zickler (49) was previously Marco Rose’s assistant at Red Bull Salzburg’s academy (2013 to 2014), for their first team (2017 to 2019), at Borussia Mönchengladbach (2019 to 2021) and for Borussia Dortmund (2021 to 2022). Zickler won 12 caps for Germany and scored two goals for his country. He won the Bundesliga seven times with FC Bayern, playing 380 times for them overall, and even lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2001.

Frank Geideck:

Frank Geideck (56) moved to RB Leipzig in 2022 from Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he had been an assistant coach from 2009 onwards. Geideck worked together with Marco Rose at Gladbach between 2019 and 2021. Born in Bielefeld, he played 172 times for his hometown club Arminia.

Marco Kurth:

Marco Kurth (45) was an academy coach at RBL from 2017 to summer 2021 and had a six-month spell as the first team’s assistant coach in 2021/22 prior to the winter break.
