RB Leipzig lost out 2-1 away to Dortmund on Friday night in an exciting game full of many chances.

We heard the reaction of Marco Rose, goalscorer Emil Forsberg, Kevin Kampl and Janis Blaswich after the match.

Match report

Marco Rose:

  • The result is hard to take when you consider how we played. The second half definitely belonged to us

We started the game okay, but then Dortmund had a good period and were really clinical. Both the goals we conceded came from moves where we gave them too much space in the centre of midfield. We have to sort that out.

We need to do a few things better if we’re to be successful at this level. We did show what we’re capable of too though. The second-half performance was superb.”

Emil Forsberg:

  • “Our second half was really good and we created a number of clear-cut chances. We were the better team, but Dortmund were cleverer today. They’re simply on a great run at the moment and it’s difficult to stop them. They played well, congratulations to them.

We played at a high tempo in the second half, knocked the ball about nicely and were confident. We have to keep our heads up now. We’ve got a number of exciting games to come. We want to win at home again next week.”

Kevin Kampl:

  • “We started the game well and Christo had a big chance straight away. Their two goals were frustrating to concede.

We showed two sides to ourselves today. We were really good in the second half and gave our all. We could have actually turned the game around. You have to take good chances like we had – you don’t normally get many of them here in Dortmund.

We need to take the lead in a game like this and avoid conceding soft goals.”

Janis Blaswich:

  • “We gave the game away in the first half. Dortmund scored with their first chance.

We had to step things up after the break and then dominated proceedings and created a number of decent chances. We were really throwing the kitchen sink at them

I was certain that we would get an equaliser. It was obviously gutting to not get one in the end. We have to stay positive, learn from this and then go again.

We have got some important games in all three competitions coming up in the next few weeks. We want to be at our best, just like we were in the second half tonight.”
