What a season!
Xavi, Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko all came to the Red Bulls in the summer of 2023. Almost a year later, one thing is clear: the three have impressed across the board.
Here are the numbers for our formidable offensive trio.
The Red Bulls
Golden Shoe: Lois Openda in Europe’s Top 10
The Meaning of the Trio
RB Leipzig scored 97 goals in all competitive matches in the 2023/24 season…
- … 56 goals alone were scored by Lois Openda (28), Benjamin Sesko (18) and Xavi (10) – that’s a share of almost 58 percent.
- …If you include the assists from Xavi (15), Lois (7) and Benjamin (2), you get a total of 80 goal involvements. That means: The three of them had their feet directly involved in 83 percent of all RBL goals.
Goal Mark Surpassed
- Lois Openda (24) and Benjamin Sesko (14) = 38 goals are equal to Timo Werner (28) and Patrik Schick (10). The duo also scored a total of 38 Bundesliga goals in the 2019/20 season.
- The two RBL strikers have each scored once in four consecutive games. The last time this happened in the Bundesliga was BVB duo Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in February 2015.
- Benjamin Sesko, who at 20 years and 111 days is the youngest Champions League goalscorer in RB Leipzig’s club history, has scored in every game in the last seven Bundesliga matches. Only Timo Werner managed that before.
