The 2-0 (2-0) loss to England confirmed the early exit: the Germany U21 national team, the defending champions, are out of the U21 European Championships in the group stages. Head coach Antonio di Salvo’s side had a disappointing tournament and failed to meet their own expectations. The DFB team lost to both England (2-0) and Czechia (2-1), as well as drawing 1-1 with Israel, in the group stages. As a result, the team and its two TSG players Angelo Stiller and Finn Ole Becker have finished bottom of the table with only point and been prematurely eliminated from the EURO.
In the final round of group games, Germany would have needed a victory over England and a win for Israel against Czechia in the other match in order to progress. But the German team found themselves 2-0 down within 20 minutes and their belief in pulling off an upset disappeared. Angelo Stiller, who was directly involved in both of Germany’s goals at the tournament (one goal and one assist), made the starting XI once again and played the full 90 minutes. Finn Ole Becker made his debut in the tournament and was substituted on in the 81st minute. But neither could prevent the defeat.
