A number of Hertha players have been in action on international duty over the last week.

An all-Hertha clash

Peter Pekarík’s Slovakia drew 2-2 with Stevan Jovetić’s Montenegro, though the two Hertha players didn’t face off on the pitch as Jove didn’t feature. He also didn’t play in his country’s 1-0 loss to Slovenia. Our number 2 played 50 minutes against Montenegro and then the full 90 minutes in a goalless draw with Chile.

On the other hand, our youth internationals enjoyed better results. Germany U20s began with a 2-2 draw against Czech Republic last Wednesday, with Tjark Ernst playing the full game in goal. Their second match saw them win 2-1 against Norway, although Ernst was replaced by Jonas Urbig in the between the sticks on that occasion. Germany U21s also tasted success on Saturday. They beat Italy 4-2 away from home in their final clash of 2022. Márton Dárdai played the last 30 minutes to win his fifth cap at this age group.

Start of the World Cup for Christensen

While Dárdai, Jovetić and Pekarík are now on their way back to the capital, a few Herthaner are still away with their national sides. Denmark, with Oliver Christensen in their squad, will play their first World Cup group game on Tuesday against Tunisia (22/11, 14:00 CET). Dodi Lukébakio is unlikely to get a late call-up to the Belgium squad, with his only chance being if they need to replace someone before Tuesday (22/11). Ernst could feature again for Germany tomorrow in a game against Portugal at 18:00 CET. Linus Gechter and Lukas Ullrich have been selected to play for Germany U19s, who host Poland on Wednesday (23/11, 12:30 CET).
