Benjamin Uphoff joined SC Freiburg on a free transfer from second-division side Karlsruher SC back in the summer of 2020. The 30-year-old played five competitive games for the club across four seasons, two in the Bundesliga and the other three in the DFB-Pokal. He also appeared 20 times in the third division for the club’s reserves.
Uphoff’s other clubs in his professional career include VfB Stuttgart and 1. FC Nürnberg. The shot-stopper played a total of 113 games in the 3. Liga and Regionalliga for these two sides.
“Benni hasn’t had an easy time recently as our third-choice goalkeeper. Last season in particular saw him play a lot of games in the 3. Liga as he fulfilled his role in our goalkeeping team. This will no longer be an option,” said SC’s sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “After four years together, we have now given him the chance to find a new challenge and we wish him all the best with that.”
