Seven Bundesliga sides and one team from the second division (1. FC Nürnberg) have made the quarterfinals of this year’s DFB-Pokal. Both finalists from last season – RB Leipzig and SC Freiburg – are still in the competition. The other teams left in are FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart, which means the top six in the Bundesliga are all still involved. “There will be no easy draw and we’re all hoping for a home game,” said Lucas Höler after Saturday’s away win in Bochum.

The draw was done at the German Football Museum in Dortmund by SGS Essen player Jaqueline Meißner, who didn’t grant SC their wish of a home tie. Christian Streich’s side will face FC Bayern, the reigning German champions, away from home. Freiburg have made hard work of all three cup ties so far this season, needing extra time against both Kaiserslautern and St. Pauli, and scoring late on in the win at Sandhausen. Bayern, on the other hand, have been extremely convincing. They have beaten Viktoria Köln 5-0, FC Augsburg 5-2, and Mainz 4-0 last time out.

An exact date and time for the game at the Allianz Arena wasn’t announced at the draw. The quarterfinal ties will be played on 4th and 5th April, the semi-finals on 2nd and 3rd May and the final on 3rd June.
