1. FC Köln will loan out Tim Lemperle to 2. Bundesliga side SpVgg Greuther Fürth for the coming season. The 21-year-old striker still has a contract until 30th June 2025 and the plan is to gain game time while in the second tier.

Tim Lemperle is one of 1. FC Köln’s most promising attackers. In the Bundesliga, injury problems and the battle for places meant that he featured for just 119 minutes and played once in both the UEFA Europa Conference League and DFB-Pokal. In the Regionalliga West, Lemperle showed his qualities after scoring four goals in seven games and registering two assists.

In February 2023, FC extended Lemperle’s contract until 30th June 2025. Part of the discussions at that point in Tim was a plan for the striker to gain game time at a high level. This opportunity has now came about with the loan to SpVgg Greuther Fürth.

FC Managing Director, Christian Keller said: “Tim has a lot of qualities to potentially establish himself in the Bundesliga in the future. In order to make that a reality, it is important for Tim and his development that he gets more game time than what we have been able to offer him at the moment. The loan to Fürth makes sense for all parties as the club, in terms of how they play, those responsible, the environment and the targeted development of young players, are a very fitting loan partner.”

Tim Lemperle said: “I had open discussions with Steffen Baumgart and Christian Keller. Long term, I want to play for FC but in the short term I need more minutes to do so. I believe the loan will help to do that. There are a few positive examples where that has worked out, like with Salih Özcan. Greuther Fürth were very interested in me and 2. Bundesliga is a high level. I am really looking forward to working hard to get my game time in Fürth and to then return here stronger than before.”

Tim Lemperle was born on 5th February 2002 in Frankfurt. The under-21 international started out with TuS Makkabi Frankfurt before joining the 1. FSV Mainz 05 academy and then FSV Frankfurt. In summer 2017, he made the move to 1. FC Köln. In May 2020, he signed his first professional deal at FC and made his Bundesliga debut in the final game of the 2019-20 season. So far, Lemperle has made 26 Bundesliga appearances and scored two goals.
