Right-back joins from KRC Genk
FC loan in Rasmus Carstensen
1. FC Köln have signed a right-back. Rasmus Carstensen has joined the club from Jupiler Pro League side KRC Genk. The 22-year-old has joined FC on loan for the upcoming season.
FC Managing Director, Christian Keller said: “We are really happy that we were able to make the Rasmus’ signing possible. His profile has everything that we were looking for when it comes to our way of playing from the right-back position. Therefore, we are convinced that he will create competition for places despite the relatively small time to get acclimatised.”
Rasmus Carstensen said: “I decided to join Köln because I saw it as a big chance to play for a huge, traditional club. I am very thankful for that. Now I want to integrate myself into the team and show what I can do on the pitch. I obviously want to play to be able to show the fans that I have strengthened the team.”
Rasmus Carstensen was born on 10th November 2000 in Virklund, Denmark, where he began playing football with his home-town club, Virklund BK. In 2012 he made the move to Danish top flight side Silkeborg IF, where he took the next step in his football development. The Danish under-21 international made his debut in the second division at the age of 18 and earned promotion to the Superligaen at the end of the campaign. After relegation, Carstensen then made the breakthrough in the following season, playing 30 games and registering 11 assists to earn promotion back to the top tier. The 2021-22 campaign saw him feature 22 times for Silkeborg, scoring a goal and adding four assists. He then followed that up with nine appearances in the Championship Round, assisting a further four goals. At the end of the successful campaign, he moved to KRC Genk (four goals, one assist).
