Vote for Borussia’s player of the month for February
Jonas Hofmann, Jonas Omlin and Lars Stindl have been nominated for this month’s player of the month award, which is presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Fans can vote for their favourites in the FohlenApp.
The Foals were in action four times in February, with Jonas Hofmann, Jonas Omlin and Lars Stindl the standout performers. The month kicked off with a 0-0 draw against Schalke before defeats away against Hertha BSC (4-1) and Mainz 05 (4-0), either side of a 3-2 victory over FC Bayern, which saw the Foals stretch their unbeaten run against the record champions to five games.
Omlin was named player of the match three in three of the games (Hertha, Schalke and Mainz), while Hofmann was the award winner after the win over FC Bayern. As such, the pair have automatically been nominated for player of the month, while Lars Stindl has also been nominated on the back of impressive performances, particularly against Bayern. Voting is open now in the FohlenApp and fans have until 23:59 CET on Thursday to vote for their winner.
Jonas Hofmann: The German international was named player of the match by German football magazine ‘kicker’ after being directly involved in all three goals of the 3-2 win. After winning a foul, he delivered the resulting free kick to Lars Stindl to open the scoring, before getting on the scoresheet himself for the second goal after some good interplay with Alassane Plea. Hofmann then helped to increase the lead to 3-1 with a good ball to substitute Marcus Thuram. The 30-year-old now has the fifth-most goal involvements in the Bundesliga this season with 15.
Jonas Omlin: The goalkeeper impressed in the draw against Schalke 04 and recorded his first clean sheet for the club, pulling off a good save to deny Schalke’s Frey in the 67th minute after an underhit backpass from Nico Elvedi, before saving a point with a good stop from a Bülter shot. In the defeat against Hertha, the new arrival was not at fault for any of the goals and also proved his reliability in the victory over Bayern. In the final game of the month, a defeat away in Mainz, Omlin was forced off with an adductor injury in the 31st minute and replaced by Tobias Sippel.
Lars Stindl: The captain scored the opening goal of the game in the win over Bayern with what was almost a carbon copy of his goal in the 4-2 Europa League win over Fiorentina six years ago, turning home a low Hofmann free-kick with a first-time shot into the bottom corner. The 34-year-old was an important part of the attack for the remainder of the game and recorded the most shots of anyone in the game, with four. His dedication was demonstrated in the 9.4km covered and the forward was met with great applause from a sold-out BORUSSIA-PARK when he was replaced in the 74th minute.
