Omlin: “Heading to Sinsheim with a good feeling”

In an interview, captain Jonas Omlin spoke about the Foals’ sporting situation, his comeback following a long spell out injured, and the upcoming away game at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Jonas, you’ve now played three games following your long spell on the sidelines. How does it feel?

Jonas Omlin: I’m very glad to be back on the pitch with the boys again. It’s always a pleasure to take to the pitch with the team and play games.

How’s the shoulder that was operated on doing?

Omlin: My shoulder’s doing really well. Of course shoulder injuries are particularly problematic for goalkeepers. I’m all the more happy that both the operation and rehabilitation went well, and that my shoulder is holding up well.

You’ve missed a large part of the season due to injury and the necessary surgery. How did you find this period?

Omlin: Yes, it was very unfortunate that I was only able to play two Bundesliga games and then was out injured again. However, there was no other option. My shoulder was causing me so many problems that playing football at the top level simply wasn’t possible anymore. Therefore, we finally decided to undergo surgery at that moment. Following that, it was about using every day to work towards getting back on the pitch as quickly as possible and feeling good again. Fortunately, I managed to do this. I was always very positive because although they were small steps, things were always moving forwards. That gave me a lot of motivation.

You joined Borussia in January 2023. How comfortable do you feel after 15 months here?

Omlin: Very! I already feel at home at BORUSSIA-PARK. My family feels really comfortable too – we’ve settled in well and have made some good contacts. Our eldest son is going to kindergarten, which he really likes. I’m very pleased and glad that we’re here.

What have you made of the three games since your comeback from a sporting perspective?

Omlin: In the cold night of day, we’ve lost twice and won one game during this period. Fortunately, we’ve still got five games left to pick up more points and to increase the gap to the teams below us. It’s in our own hands.

You’re the visitors at TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday. What kind of game are you expecting?

Omlin: Hoffenheim is always a tough challenge. However, we’ve picked up decent results there in the past – that’s our goal for Saturday too. We won 4-1 there last season. It was my first Bundesliga win with Borussia in my third game and it was the team’s first away win in a long time. For this reason, I’m heading to Sinsheim with a good feeling. I hope that things go exactly as they did last time I was there.

The last away win wasn’t so long ago this time around. You won 3-1 in Wolfsburg two weeks ago. To what extent can this win give you momentum for the task away at TSG?

Omlin: I think this win can give us momentum. We know that we can win away from home – that’s always a positive sign. We want to build on that in Hoffenheim.
