Honorat: “I think the type of football I play and my mentality will fit well here”
This Thursday, Franck Honorat spoke to the media at the Flatex-Presseclub. Read on for all the quotes from today’s press conference in Tegernsee.
…his decision to move to the Bundesliga: I’ve been following the Bundesliga very closely for at least three years now. One of my best friends, Josuha Guilavogui, has also only told me positive things about the Bundesliga. I think that the type of football I play as well as my mentality will fit well with Germany, so I am very happy to have managed to move here now with my transfer to Borussia.
…his start at Borussia: I feel very at home here. There are a few players in the team that I already know from the French league. This has made the start a bit easier because I can confirm things with them in my own language, but I have also been taken in really well by my other teammates and the head coach. Here at Borussia, everything is still clearly even bigger and more professional than at my former club. I will definitely need a bit of time to learn all the processes and to internalise these, but I am very confident that everything will work out quickly.
…his first couple of friendlies with the Foals: In Saarbrücken, I played further forward upfront, against Ingolstadt at right wing-back. Upfront was a slightly unknown position for me because I haven’t played there position for a long time. I feel more at home on the right-wing because I can put my teammates through more from there with crosses and passes. If needed, I can also play on the left-wing, but I can utilise my strengths better playing off the right.
…his defensive qualities: As a wing-back on the right-hand side at St. Etienne and Clermont, I found it difficult to start with because it wasn’t clear to me that you have to do lots of defensive work playing this position (laughs). But I learnt that quickly enough. I now don’t have any problems with also working very hard out of possession. The only problem there is that you have to use a lot of energy to then produce quality on the ball when you’re attacking again. You have to find the right balance.
…his aims at Borussia: My first aim is to start well at Borussia and in the Bundesliga. I have to get to know everything and understand exactly what the coach is demanding of my personally and of us as a team. In Brest, we played more defensively, here we are more attacking-minded. It is now about adapting to this way of playing step-by-step. I also would like to get to know my teammates and their qualities as well as possible so that eventually we can play good football together as a group.
