Foals excited for the start of the Bundesliga season
Borussia began their final week of training on Monday morning before the opening weekend of the Bundesliga. The Foals play FC Augsburg away from home on Saturday afternoon (15:30 CEST).
The Foals were successful in their first competitive fixture of 2023/24, defeating TuS Bersenbrück 7-0 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Friday night. Borussia will find out who they will play in the next round on 1st October, with focus now turning to the start of the new league season. Matchday 1 sees Gladbach travel to play FC Augsburg on Saturday at 15:30 CEST. “We’re pleased that the league will finally get underway this weekend,” said head coach Gerardo Seoane. His side trained for the first time this week on Monday afternoon, and even got to test out the new Derbystar retro ball, which will be used across the first two matchdays to mark the 60th season of the Bundesliga.
Hannes Wolf, who missed the Pokal game due to a thigh muscle issue, was back in training on Monday. Youngsters Simon Walde and Oscar Fraulo both completed a running session as their workload was managed by the coaches. Christoph Kramer (recovering from partial knee ligament tear) and Manu Koné (recovering from knee injury) continued to train on their own. The team will train four times before the opening game, with the final three sessions all behind closed doors.
The Foals want to show fans that they are a real unit when the Bundesliga returns on Saturday. “Our football should be honest. Sometimes we will try to play a more attractive style, other times we won’t. The players should always be giving their best on the pitch and support one another,” stressed Seoane, who wants the fans to support the team’s journey, even after possible setbacks. “I’m sure that the fans will understand that a rebuild is a process that takes time. So far though, the support has been great and I’m confident it will help push us on this season.”
