DFB-Pokal game in Saarbrücken called off due to unplayable conditions
The Foals’ scheduled DFB-Pokal quarter-final away at 1. FC Saarbrücken on Wednesday evening was called off a few minutes before the planned 20:45 CET kick-off time due to unplayable conditions on the pitch and the increased danger of injury to players.
Borussia had been scheduled to visit 1. FC Saarbrücken in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals on Wednesday evening. A few minutes before the scheduled kick-off time of 20:45 CET however, referee Florian Badstübner and his team of officials decided to call the game off. The reason for this was persistent rainfall in Saarbrücken, which resulted in unplayable conditions at the Ludwigsparkstadion. “We really wanted to play, but when you look at the pitch, it was absolutely a correct and reasonable decision not to start the game,” said managing director for sport Roland Virkus. “There were parts of the pitch where the players couldn’t keep their balance and were slipping. That’s just too dangerous. The safety of the players comes first.”
