Borussia win pre-season tournament in Heimstetten
The Foals celebrate two wins against 1860 Munich (2-1) and VfB Stuttgart (5-1) during a mini pre-season tournament in Heimstetten, Bavaria.
VfL took the lead through Grant-Leon Ramos in their opening game against 1860 Munich. The Lions were able to equalise through Manfred Starke (16’), before Shio Fukuda put the Foals back in front (32’).
The Foals then put five past VfB Stuttgart in a 5-1 victory in their second friendly of the tournament. Tomáš Čvančara (14’/48’/56’) scored a hat-trick, as Nathan Ngoumou netted a brace (10’, 45’). Silas scored a consolation goal for VfB (32’).
TEAM NEWS:
Head coach Gerardo Seoane named a youthful team for the first game against 1860. Moritz Nicolas started in goal, with Noah Andreas, Fabio Chiarodia and Phil Kemper in defence. Simon Walde and Lukas Ullrich began on the wings, with Oscar Fraulo and Rocco Reitz partnering each other in midfield. Patrick Hermann, Grant-Leon Ranos and Shio Fukuda lined up in attack.
Jonas Omlin started in goal against Stuttgart, behind Joe Scally, Tony Jantschke and Fabio Chiarodia. Franck Honorat and Luca Netz began on the wings, with Ko Itakura and Julian Weigl in centre midfield. Nathan Ngoumou and Alassane Plea started in attack, with Tomáš Čvančara as the lone striker.
Seoane was without Jan Olschowsky (rehab after bone injury in left thumb), Christoph Kramer (partial MCL tear), Manu Koné (rehab after knee injury), Hannes Wolf (ill) and Stefan Lainer (cancer), who all did not travel to training camp in Tegernsee. Yvandro Borges Sanches, Florian Neuhaus, Marvin Friedrich and Robin Hack were also not in the squad.

8’: Ranos takes advantage of a mix-up at the back from 1860 and scores to make it 1-0.
16’: 1860 equalise after Starke heads in a corner from the near post.
32’: Borussia retake the lead! Itakura, Ranos and Herrmann combine to find Fukuda, who scores his first goal for the Foals.
40’: Reitz tries a shot from 13 metres out, but the 1860 goalkeeper is able to parry it.
50’: The Lions nearly equalise again, after Schröter strips the ball from Nicolas, but Kemper is able to clear his shot before it rolls in.
57’: Verlaat sends a header just wide of the target.
59’: Nicolas reacts quickly to redirect a shot from Sulejmani over the bar.

5’: The first chance of the game comes from Netz, who drives down the left wing and finds Plea, but his first-time effort goes just wide.
10’: Ngoumou scores the opener for the Foals! He wins the ball in midfield and drives forward before smashing the ball through the legs of Nübel and into the back of the net.
13’: VfB nearly equalise through Guirassy, but his header goes over the bar.
14’: A second for the Foals! Plea crosses the ball to Honorat, who lays it off for Čvančara to tap in to make it 2-0.
25’: Another well-worked attack from the Foals sees Ngoumou find Čvančara. The striker’s shot ends up hitting the side-netting.
32’: VfB get one back. Guirassy back heels the ball to Silas, who is able to beat Omlin from close range.
45’: Čvančara lays it off to Honorat, who drives forward to the goalline before cutting the back into the box for Ngoumou. He only needs to stick out a foot to make it 3-1 for the Foals.
48’: The goals keep coming, as Čvančara scores again after heading in a cross from Ngoumou!
56’: Čvančara completes his hat-trick in stunning fashion! After being awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box, the striker steps up and places the ball into the top right corner.
