Borussia draw 1-1 at 1. FC Heidenheim

Borussia drew 1-1 away at 1. FC Heidenheim on Matchday 26 of the Bundesliga. Robin Hack’s early opener was cancelled out by Eren Dinkci in the second half.

In front of 15,000 spectators at a sold-out Voith-Arena, Borussia scored with their first effort of the game. Robin Hack finished coolly into the bottom left corner after a great move and assist from Jordan in the ninth minute. In a game without many goalscoring chances, the hosts had more possession but the Foals were better in terms of individual battles and passing accuracy, and had a big chance to double their lead after a long-range effort from Florian Neuhaus.

After the break, Heidenheim switched things around and piled on the pressure. After the Foals had initially managed to repel some dangerous attacks, Eren Dinkci struck into the top left corner to equalise in the 66th minute. FCH stayed on top following this and had the best chance to win the game when Tim Kleindienst headed against the post. The game ended 1-1 however.

TEAM NEWS

Head coach Gerardo Seoane made three changes to his starting eleven from the DFB-Pokal game at 1. FC Saarbrücken. Joe Scally, Stefan Lainer and Max Wöber came in for Ko Itakura, Marvin Friedrich and Luca Netz. Along with Nico Elvedi, those three made up the back four in front of goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas. Julian Weigl, Rocco Reitz and Florian Neuhaus were the midfield, while Robin Hack, Franck Honorat and Jordan formed the attack.

Alassane Plea (bruised foot) and Tomáš Čvančara (ankle ligament tear) were still unavailable due to injury.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS

9’: Borussia take the lead! Reitz wins the ball and sets Honorat on the attack. He plays it to Jordan who moves the ball onto Hack. He slots into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0.

40’: Scally advances to the touchline on the left and cuts it back to the edge of the penalty area. Neuhaus hits it first time but it goes over the bar.

45+1’: Elvedi tries to win the ball off Kleindienst but catches the Heidenheim forward. Referee Petersen awards a penalty, but it’s overturned after a VAR review because Kleindienst was offside in the build-up.

SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS

66’: Heidenheim equalise. Dinkci receives the ball on the edge of the penalty area and strikes into the top left corner for 1-1.

74’: Off the woodwork! Kleindienst climbs highest in the penalty area and hits the left post. The Gladbach defence are able to clear the follow-up.
