Edin Terzic was critical of his team’s performance at the press conference. “There were not many things that we were happy with today, but we are of course happy to start the season with a home win,” said the head coach, adding: “We have Donny Malen and in particular Gregor Kobel to thank for winning the game.”
“If we want to achieve our objectives, we need to improve the performance,” declared Edin Terzic following the 1-0 home victory against 1. FC Köln. “We had a lot of possession but we didn’t like which areas we had it in. We acted far too passively in the first half, then switched a few things up; but that also didn’t work so well. If you need two or three touches of the ball too many to make the right decision, it becomes tough to get into the final third and create scoring opportunities. We only managed that once for Jule Brandt’s chance.” That was in the 30th minute.
The winning goal – which was fortunate in terms of how it came about and in light of how the game went – came in the 88th minute. “Donny, and this is the crazy story of the game, should actually no longer have been on the pitch but then he was in the right place,” said Terzic. “In any case, we managed to demonstrate how important set-pieces can be. We scored a similar goal last season, in Mainz, also right before the final whistle.” (br)
