Borussia Dortmund and Leipzig are going head-to-head for the 15th time in the Bundesliga. Since the Saxons’ promotion in 2016, only Bayern Munich have picked up more points (584) in the league than BVB (493). Leipzig are third in the ranking, with 467 points. 

Outlook: Fifth against fourth. A win would see BVB (sitting on 25 points) leapfrog Leipzig in the standings (26 points). The away team are vulnerable on the break (four goals conceded on the counter), which is a promising sign for BVB, who have scored five goals from counter-attacks this season. 

Home/away: The Black & Yellows have won four of their five most recent home games and have only lost one of their last 22 home games across this season and last. Leipzig are the seventh-best team away from home, with three wins and three defeats. They have won just one of their last five away games across all  competitions (a 2-1 win in Belgrade at the start of November), losing the other four (twice in Wolfsburg, one in the cup and one in the league, and away to Mainz and Manchester City). 

Statistics: Only Bayer and Bayern have lost fewer games than BVB (two defeats), although Borussia have only won one of their last five league matches (against Gladbach). The Black & Yellows have picked up points after going behind in five matches (three wins, two draws). Only Bayern Munich have kept more clean sheets (six) than Leipzig (five). Stuttgart are the only team to have been awarded more penalties (six) than the Saxons (five). 

Head-to-head: The last seven meetings between the two sides at Signal Iduna Park have witnessed 30 goals, an average of more than four per game. There has yet to be a goalless draw between the two teams, neither in Dortmund nor in Leipzig. Leipzig have suffered more defeats in Dortmund (four) than any other Bundesliga venue.  

Biggest win: BVB won 4-1 on 26 August 2018, despite the visitors taking the lead after 31 seconds through Augustin. Goals from Mo Dahoud in the 21st minute, Leipzig’s Marcel Sabitzer into his own net (40) and Axel Witsel (43) made it 3-1 at half-time. Marco Reus then added a final goal in stoppage time.
