The trio of Friday nights, floodlights and football are more closely interlinked in Dortmund than in any other Bundesliga city. The home game against Leipzig was BVB’s 245th Friday evening game.

Their record on this day of the week is also remarkable. The 2-1 win against the Saxony side was Borussia Dortmund’s 116th triumph on a Friday. There have also been 66 draws. Only 63 home or away fixtures on a Friday evening have culminated in a loss. With the three-point rule applied to all matches, that equates to an average of 1.69 points per game. The average in the 1,644 matches on other days of the week stands at 1.61 points.

With 245 matches, the Black & Yellows are the Friday kings of the league according to Werder Bremen are next with 235 games. Although FC Bayern have played the opening game of the season 10 times in a row, which traditionally takes place on a Friday, the men from Munich have contested only 102 of their 1,964 Bundesliga games on Fridays.

Friday home games are especially popular in Dortmund. None of the 33 matches at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK have ended in defeat since January 2004. There have been 25 wins and eight draws. That equates to 2.52 points per game. (br)
